L'art brut d'hier et d'aujourd'hui

The project MONSens, conceived and executed on the occasion of Mons 2015, a European Capital of Culture initiative consists of two parts. The first part, an exhibition curated by Carine Fol titled MONSens: l’art brut d’hier et d’aujourd’hui, explores the evolution of the gaze towards Art Brut, on display from June 20 to September 6, 2015 at BAM (Le Musée des Beaux-Arts in Mons, Belgium). The second part titled MONSens: Interaction, co-curated by Yolande De Bontridder, consists of two years of workshops led by a select group of contemporary artists during which new work is produced through interactions with groups of mentally handicapped adults. The project as a whole aims to aid in the integration of mentally handicapped populations residing in and around Mons via the creation of new works, while placing this new contemporary work within a historical frame for the final exhibition at BAM which features work by well-known international outsider artists sourced from both Belgian and international museums.
